PAMAPNGA -- The City Government of San Fernando on Tuesday paid tribute to retired teachers who fought for the sanctity of ballots in the January 30, 1980 local elections.

During the Teacher’s Heroism Day held at the city hall, the City Government recognized the heroism of Fernandino teachers who offered their lives to protect citizens’ votes cast in the elections 38 years ago.

CLARK FREEPORT — The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has partnered with various government agencies and a local government unit in Pampanga for a one stop shop which will make processing of requirements on government services faster and more convenient for both locators and employees.

In a newly-signed accord, services of the One Stop Processing Center (OSPC) at the former Clark Polytechnic will be formalized and improved.

30 Jan 2018 - Customs to add K-9 units, X-ray machines in Clark

CLARK FREEPORT -- Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said Bureau of Customs (BOC) will augment its existing X-ray detectors and K-9 units at the Clark International Airport.

Lapeña issued statement during the turnover of the 18 kilos of shabu (crystal meth) worth P90 million to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the BOC Port of Clark on Tuesday.

30 Jan 2018 - EMB yet to issue closure orders to San Simon steel plants

PAMAPNGA -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has yet to issue closure orders for three large smelting plants in San Simon town despite results of its recent investigation showing the factories’ alleged violation of environmental laws.

The EMB recently issued its findings from the inspection and collection of air quality samples on December 11 to 15 last year, which show Wan Chiong Steel Corporation, Melters’ Steel Corporation and Real Steel Corporation allegedly violated Republic Act 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act and some of their terms in their Environmental Certificates (ECC).

PAMAPNGA -- The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Central Luzon met with different agriculturists, together with their extension workers, from Central Luzon at in Angeles City on Wednesday.

The event gathered agricultural workers from the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales to discuss and align the goals and targets for the year 2018 of the DA and the national government for the agricultural sector.

MABALACAT CITY -- Two Koreans took from another Korean national his car at the parking lot of SM Clark in Barangay Lakandula, Mabalacat City, Sunday.

Authorities said that Woolim Bae, 30, a resident of Lamtang road, Baguio City, was about to sell his BMW car (with plate number VEB-404) to two unidentified Korean nationals.

30 Jan 2018 - Agri-officers challenged to improve rice production

PAMAPNGA -- The Department of Agriculture's (DA) Regional Technical Operations for Extensions head Crispulo Bautista Jr. challenged the Province of Tarlac to improve their current rice production of 4.3 metric tons per hectare.

He also introduced the 470-million hybridization program before city and municipal officers present during their monthly meeting held at the Office of the Provincial Agriculture in Tarlac yesterday.

30 Jan 2018 - Guagua launches ‘Oplan Zero Dengue’

PAMAPNGA -- The Municipal Government of Guagua launched on Tuesday the “Oplan Zero Dengue” program in a bid to eradicate or at least reduce the incidence of dengue in this town. The launching was held at the Guagua Elementary School in Barangay Santa Filomena led by Mayor Dante Torres and councilors Michelle Rivera and Roy Sunglao.

The activity was attended by all barangay health workers of the town, barangay officials and municipal doctors.

PAMAPNGA -- The Civil Service Commission (CSC) recently conferred the National Excellence Award in the implementation of Anti-Red Tape Act-Report Card Survey (Arta-RCS) to the local government unit (LGU) of Arayat.

Garnering a score of 94.75 percent, the Arayat local government came third after Santiago City in Isabela (96.45 percent) and Tagum City in Davao Del Norte (95.59 percent), which bested all the cities and municipalities all over the Philippines.

PAMAPNGA -- Farming can still work in the urban set up and even in cities like this capital city as some 200 farmers here are now undergoing a 12-week training on agricultural practices with the help of the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) program of the SM Foundation Inc.

The 12-week program include lectures and actual demonstrations at the at the Hansel Farm in Barangay Maimpis where farmers will be training on backyard planting, new techniques in farming methods, harvesting fruits, vegetables and other crops.

26 Jan 2018 - 17,000 entrepreneurs benefit from DTI trainings in 2017

PAMAPNGA -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Central Luzon said Friday, January 26, that 17,322 entrepreneurs benefitted from its training sessions through the Small and Medium Enterprises Roving Academy (SMERA) program.

“Our seven provincial offices and our Negosyo Centers were able to conduct 430 SMERA training sessions last year,” DTI-Central Luzon Director Judith Angeles said.

PAMAPNGA -- Amid concerns of the Aeta community being left out in the construction of the multi-billion peso New Clark City, Mabalacat City Councilor and ex-officio of Sanggunian Tribu Aeta (STA) Rubilyn Margarito said they were not bypassed in the planning of the project.

PAMAPNGA -- A farmer was shot to death by unidentified gunmen in Barangay San Juan Bano, Arayat, Pampanga, on January 24.

Authorities said Hari Arrelano, 47, a farmer and resident of Barangay San Juan, was resting in the rice field when shot.

25 Jan 2018 - City of San Fernando to use P2.4-M PCF for day care center

PAMAPNGA -- City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago said Wednesday, January 24, that the City Government will use the P2.4-million Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) it received from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the construction of a much needed day care center in Barangay Del Pilar.

The PCF is an incentive from the DILG, awarded to the city for winning the Seal of Good Local Governance anew.

PAMAPNGA -- The Widus Foundation Inc. (WFI), in cooperation with the Korean Community Association in Central Luzon Inc. (KCACLI), turned over on January 24 a 20-footer container van to the Tourist Police Unit (TPU) of Angeles City that was converted into a police detachment.

25 Jan 2018 - CDC installs P13-M solar panels on 3 buildings

CLARK FREEPORT -- Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has announced the completion of the installation of 816 units solar panels in three corporate buildings of the state-owned firm amounting to about P13 million.

With the installation of solar panels, the state-owned firm is expected to save P2.1 million a year from the P5.2 million average power consumption of the three buildings annually.

25 Jan 2018 - Masantoleño elderly get cash grants

PAMAPNGA -- Hundreds of elderly from various villages in Masantol town received Thursday, January 25, their monthly social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government.

During the distribution, Mayor Danilo Guintu said that more than P1 million was distributed to at least 714 senior citizens who were identified as indigents by the town’s social welfare office to help them in their daily expenses, particularly on medicines.

PAMAPNGA -- In the continuous goal to provide a decent lives for every senior citizen, the local government here and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently released more than P500,000 financial grants for their social pension.

PAMAPNGA -- A Police officer was found dead inside the Community Police Action Center 2 (Compac-2) located in Barangay Dolores, City of San Fernando, last January 20.

Senior Superintendent Joel Consulta, Pampanga police provincial director, said that PO2 Ahamand Nakilan Unding, 35, a resident of Fiesta Homes in Mexico town and a member of Compac-2, was lying on the long wooden chair inside the kitchen when found dead.

PAMAPNGA -- Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab thanked operatives of the San Luis Municipal Police Station for helping recover stolen computer units from a public high school in Lubao.

CLARK FREEPORT --- The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) has terminated its contract with service provider Miascor in the wake of the recent luggage theft incident but the state-run firm ensures that there will be no disruption in its operations.

"We have given Miascor up to 60 days to wind down its operation during the transition period so as not to disrupt flights and operations," Alexander Cauguiran, acting CIAC president, said.

PAMAPNGA -- Two boys were collared by local authorities here after being suspected of peddling illegal drugs to a police agent in a recent buy-bust operation.

The suspects, whose names were withheld, were arrested by operatives of the Sta. Ana police station after allegedly selling two sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

CLARK FREEPORT — Aviation services provider Miascor has appeald to President Duterte to reconsider his position after the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) terminated its ground handling services following a pilferage involving its employees.

This after Duterte ordered the termination of MIASCOR’s contract following the incident that victimized an overseas Filipino worker from Singapore who lost P84,000 worth of items and other valuables.

PAMAPNGA -- French pharmaceutical firm Sanofi Pasteur has reimbursed the Philippine government P1.16-billion for stocks of unused Dengvaxia vaccine, disclosed Health Secretary Francisco Duque III over the weekend.

Duque said that the manufacturer of the controversial anti-dengue vaccine made the refund in the form of a check on Thursday, shortly after they started pulling out the vaccine’s remaining stocks in the Department of Health warehouses around the country, except in far islands of Cebu and Batangas.

PAMPANGA -- The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon recorded a significant decrease in the number of crimes that transpired in the region from September 2017 to December 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.

PRO-Central Luzon Director Amador Corpus said the extensive efforts of Central Luzon police to implement their anti-criminality measures and maintain peace and order came through after they recorded positive output on their activities.

8 Jan 2018 - Porac execs meet transport leaders on issues, concerns

PAMPANGA -- Porac Mayor Condralito dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David met on Monday, January 8, more than 15 leaders of the different jeepney transport groups to address issues and concerns regarding the local transport industry.

Chief of those discussed was the government’s jeepney modernization program that will affect 270,000 jeepneys nationwide, as well as recent developments in the opening of new service routes that would mean additional franchise for local jeepney owners and operators.

8 Jan 2018 - 21 drug suspects arrested in 2-day police operations

PAMPANGA -- At least 21 drug personalities were arrested in a series of anti-illegal drug operations conducted by police operatives in two days.

Arrested were Rodney Carino and Michael Sangalang, both of Capas town; Rolly Paulino, Virgilio Tabamo and a 16-year-old, all in Tarlac City; Jeffrey Salazar of Gerona town and Joselito Padilia of La Paz, both from Tarlac; Michael Palo of the City of San Fernando; Ronald Reyes and Marco Nicolas, both of Porac town; Dennis Nucum of Mexico town, Pampanga; Christian Abenoja of San Antonio town; Aleli Linayao and Angelita Cometa, both of Iba town, both from Zambales.

8 Jan 2018 - SBMA bans 3 brokers in smuggling try

SUBIC BAY -- Three custom brokers involved in an attempted smuggling here of expensive liquor amounting to P40 million were blacklisted.

Wilma Eisma, chairwoman and administrator of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), said the blacklisting was the initial action of the agency in connection with the smuggling attempt that was foiled by the SBMA Law Enforcement Department (SBMA-LED) just before Christmas.

8 Jan 2018 - Jica begins detailed engineering design for PNR Clark North Phase 2

PAMPANGA -- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has started the detailed engineering design for Phase 2 of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) Clark North Project from Malolos City to Clark International Airport (CRK).

Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda confirmed this development during the commencement of construction of the PNR Clark North Phase 1 from Tutuban in Metro Manila to Malolos City.

8 Jan 2018 - Mayor urges Apaliteños, investors: Pay taxes early

PAMPANGA -- Apalit Mayor Peter Nucom advised residents and investors on Monday, January 8, to pay their taxes promptly and avail themselves of the local government’s one-stop shop services.

During Monday’s flag raising ceremony held at the municipal hall grounds, Nucom said the local government offers up to 10 percent discount to early bird taxpayers who can pay until January 20.

7 Jan 2018 - DTI reminds businessmen of SRPs under TRAIN law

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Central Luzon reminded businessmen to observe the approved Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) of products and commodities it recently released amid the looming price increase as the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law takes effect.

While the prices of basic goods and prime commodities in the region are still stable, DTI-Central Luzon Information Officer Warren Serrano said that the agency already released a list of SRPs to avoid possible overpricing of vendors.

ANGELES CITY -- A Pampanga-based businessman has expressed support to the government’s comprehensive tax reform program (CTRP).

Rene Romero, owner of the Romac Manpower Services and vice chair of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce (PamCham), said the CTRP will enable the government to finance big ticket infrastructure and other social service projects with an efficient tax collection program.

7 Jan 2018 - Woman shot dead in Mabalacat City

PAMPANGA -- A 47-year-old woman was shot dead by a lone gunman inside her house in Barangay Dau, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, last Friday, January 5.

Senior Superintendent Joel Consulta, Pampanga police director, identified the fatality as Elsa Lingawlingaw, 47, a resident of Yap Park, Barangay Dau, Mabalacat City.

7 Jan 2018 - BIR exceeds target by P600M

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Revenue Region 4 had exceeded its target for the previous fiscal year by two percent or roughly P600 million with final collections still coming in this January 15.

BIR Region 4 Director Jethro Sabariaga said that the region collected more than P31 Billion which is above its collection target of P30.5 billion.

7 Jan 2018 - Sasmuan to end 5-day dance ritual on Jan. 10

PAMPANGA -- After putting away the Christmas decorations and ushering in the New Year, the people of this town and devotees from all across Pampanga will officially end the Yuletide season with a five-day dance ritual in honor of the town’s patron saint that started last January 6 and will end this Wednesday, January 10.

As of Saturday, hundreds of devotees have trooped to Sasmuan as part of their yearly devotion to attend any of the thanksgiving masses at the old parish church here and participate in the Kuraldal. Traffic had been reported last Saturday to have reached as far as Guagua and Lubao town, along the roads leading to Sasmuan.

6 Jan 2018 - DTI hit for hiding real effects of new tax law

MABALACAT CITY --- Anakpawis party-list Representative Ariel Casilao has criticized the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for undermining the effects of the new tax reform law.

Casilao at the same time urged the public not to be fooled by the DTI statement that hikes on basic goods are minimal. “The DTI is clearly peddling fake news on the real effects of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) to the public. The minimal four percent increase on price of basic goods due to the new tax law claiming that manufactures only spent less than 10 percent of its production cost to transport their goods. This is out of touch to reality; manufacturers already refute this as they claimed there were various processes before the goods landed to grocery stores”, he said.

6 Jan 2018 - BIR to process 1 Rate case a month

PAMPANGA -- There is no stopping the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here as it is set to process a minimum of one tax evasion case against those who are remiss in paying their taxes under the Run After Tax Evaders (Rate) Program.

BIR-Central Luzon director Jethro Sabariaga said that the effort is to fully bring into the fold those who are not included in the tax net. He added that the BIR now is concentrating on individuals and professionals who have not been paying the right taxes.

4 Jan 2018 - Transport groups condemn Train Law

PAMPANGA -- Major transport groups in Pampanga condemned on Thursday the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) Law along with its "negative impact" on the prices of basic goods and services in the market.

4 Jan 2018 - Cops nab Bulgarian for 'skimming' ATM

PAMPANGA -- City of San Fernando police arrested on Wednesday a Bulgarian national for allegedly skimming an automated teller machine (ATM) of a bank in Barangay San Agustin.

Police identified the suspect as Ivaylo Sashov Galavov who was nabbed while withdrawing cash at an ATM of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) using several fake or cloned ATM cards.

4 Jan 2018 - DepEd: Application for SHS voucher program ongoing

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Education (DepEd)-Central Luzon announced on Thursday that application for Senior High School (SHS) voucher program for school year 2018-2019 is ongoing.

In a statement to SunStar Pampanga, DepEd-Central Luzon said that aside from the qualified Grade 10 student applicants for the SHS voucher program, students who passed the Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E Test) are now also eligible to apply for financial subsidy and pursue SHS in non-DepEd schools and institutions.

3 Jan 2018 - 113 displaced workers in Sto. Tomas get grants

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) recently distributed some P500,000 to this municipality under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Displaced Workers (Tupad) program.

Dole-Pampanga Provincial Director Arlene Tolentino led the distribution of salaries of some 113 indigent and displaced workers from this town who recently rendered 10 days of services in their respective communities.

PAMPANGA -- Two schools from this town bested hundreds of schools from all over the country as they won two categories in the recently concluded Brigada Eskwela Awards.

Porac Model Community High School, headed by Principal Gil Tiongco, was hailed as the national winner in the large school category. Meanwhile, Camias High School, headed by Principal Rufo Henson, was hailed as the national winner for the small school category.

3 Jan 2018 - No firecracker-related injuries in San Fernando

PAMPANGA -- This was how City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Office (CDRRMO) head Raymond Del Rosario described the celebration of the holiday season of Fernandinos after the city recorded no firecracker-related incidents.

Del Rosario said that while the CDRRMO was all ready and on-standby for quick response during the whole holiday season, it did not receive any report of any firecracker-related accidents.

3 Jan 2018 - Pampanga top in firecracker-related injuries in Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- The Province of Pampanga registered the most number of firecracker-related injuries with 67 recorded cases, as of January 3, in the whole of Central Luzon virtually overtaking Bulacan which was number one last year for the same period.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) Aksyon Paputok: Injury Reduction (APIR) Surveillance update as of January 3 said that a total of 190 reported fireworks-related injuries were recorded.

MABALACAT CITY – There will be a whole-day power interruption in this city on January 9, 2018.

In its advisory, the Pampanga II Electric Cooperative 2 (Pelco 2) stated that all barangays here and its service areas at Barangay Santa Lucia in Magalang town will be affected by the nine-hour power outage.

2 Jan 2018 - Firework-related injuries in Central Luzon down by 71%

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Health (DOH) said that there has been a 71 percent decrease in the number of firecracker-related injuries compared to previous data from the same period last year.

Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) Surveillance update as of January 2 showed a total of 149 firecracker-related injuries, which is 71 percent lower compared to 521 cases from the same period in 2016.

2 Jan 2018 - 149 firecracker-related injuries recorded in Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- Amid the implementation of nationwide firecracker ban, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Department of Health (DOH) still recorded more than a hundred of firecracker injuries in Central Luzon.

According to the report released by Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon, at least 149 injuries caused by the use of firecrackers were recorded since they started the strict implementation of Executive Order (EO) No. 28 on December 15 until January 1.
