31 Oct 2017 - Top cop assures public’s safety on All Saints’ Day

PAMPANGA -- The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon on Monday, October 30, assured the public of intensified police operations to ensure safe and peaceful observance of All Saints’ and Souls’ Day.

PRO-Central Luzon director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus said that the whole Central Luzon police will be on full force to cover all cemeteries, transport terminals and other convergence points in the region.

31 Oct 2017 - Despite floods, Masantoleños still flock to cemeteries

PAMPANGA -- A day before the All Saints’ Day, cemeteries in this fourth district town were still submerged in at least ankle-deep flood waters.

According to Mayor Danilo Guintu, pumping out water is not an option as the cemeteries were left behind by road upgrading projects implemented by the government around its vicinity.

31 Oct 2017 - 6 vehicles victimized by 'Basag Kotse' gang

PAMPANGA -- At least six vehicles were victimized by the so-called “Basag Kotse” group in a parking lot of Robinsons Starmills in Barangay San Jose, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Friday night.

Authorities here reported that those vehicles victimized were an Isuzu Sportivo SUV (XTM-444) owned by Melinda Clarin, 51, of Barangay San Vicente, Apalit; a Honda Civic Sedan (ZKA-795) by Ed Christopher David, 26, of Barangay Sta. Ines, Betis; a Nissan Juke (OXO-045) owned by Jamir Jazer Salita, 35, of Barangay Arenas, Arayat; and an Isuzu Crosswind, a Ford Escape and Mitsubishi Estrada whose owners were not immediately identified.

31 Oct 2017 - Pampanga trains 667 DRRM coordinators

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga recently trained some 667 disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) coordinators in schools to ensure the safety of students in the province.

Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, vice chair of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), gave certificates of completion and first aid kits to 116 coordinators in simple rites at a PDRRMC warehouse at the provincial engineer’s compound in Barangay Sindalan here on Monday.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is donating a two-storey school building to Manibaug Libutad Elementary School in nearby Porac town.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was forged by the CDC, Municipality of Porac and the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Luzon for the project.

ANGELES CITY -- This year's Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan (TTKD) is expected to once again break existing records of attendance where an estimated crowd of more than 75,000 party-goers lined up the one-kilometer stretch of MacArthur Highway over the weekend to be a part of an event dubbed as the biggest street party in the whole country.

During the opening salvo, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, who heads the organizing committee of the annual street party, addressed the crowd on the importance and relevance of the TTKD to the city.

PAMPANGA -- The municipality of Magalang and some villages of Mexico town such as Pandacaqui and Sapang Maisac will experience electric power interruption on Wednesday, November 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will undertake maintenance works at its Mexico-Clark 69 KV Line 1.

The said areas are under the power distribution coverage of the Pampanga I Electric Cooperative Inc. (Pelco I) which lamented the date of the scheduled power interruption which coincides with All Saints’ Day (Undas).

PAMPANGA -- SENATOR Loren Legarda has increased funding support to expand and enhance the capabilities and competency of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by allocating P1 billion each for the proposed 2018 budgets of the Pondo Para sa Pagbabago of the Small Business Corporation and the Shared Services Facilities (SSF) program under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

ANGELES CITY -- A group of overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), in cooperation with the barangay council of Balibago, has sponsored a feeding program which benefitted more than 400 children in Barangay Balibago here.

Balibago Chairman Tony Mamac said the feeding program was jointly conducted recently by barangays officials and some members of the BIGO/OFW, an association of Filipino workers in Qatar, Dubai, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and other parts of the world.

PAMPANGA -- At least 2,000 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel were deployed early Saturday morning in various cemeteries and transport terminals as Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon implemented Oplan “Undas” 2017 to ensure public safety.

Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, PRO-Central Luzon director, said there are police assistance desks established to provide public assistance to missing persons particularly children.

MABALACAT CITY -- The PLDT Incorporated, led by tycoon Manny Pangilinan, will be spending P11 billion in the next two years to finance a modernization plan which includes the shift to fiber internet for a better internet speed.

The budget was allotted to establish Fibr ports across the country and upgrade over 1.3 million subscribers to fiber optics cable from Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).

PAMPANGA -- THE Provincial Government of Pampanga over has warned aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against illegal recruiters promising employment and easy travel abroad.

The warning came as more than 10 OFWs and their relatives went to the Capitol recently to report cases of illegal recruitment. The relatives also reported abuse and unfair labor practices subjected on their relatives by their employers.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Engineering Department of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has reported the completion of the 11.8-kilometer road widening project worth P269 million.

CDC president Noel Manankil said the state firm’s Construction and Management Division (CMD) stated that the three newly-widened major thoroughfares include the Manuel A. Roxas, Claro M. Rector, and Jose Abad Santos highways.

PAMPANGA -- A Total of 20 Tarlac centenarians received on October 23 P100,000 each from the Provincial Government of Tarlac as part of its commitment to cite senior citizens who reach the 100-year-old mark.

The financial incentive to Tarlac centenarians was the brainchild of Vice Governor Carlito David, who authored Provincial Ordinance 001-2016, which was passed by the Provincial Board last year.

CLARK FREEPORT -- Defense ministers of the member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) issued Monday a joint declaration at the conclusion of the 11th Asean Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM).

“The declaration adopts the three-year work program of ADMM to outline the direction of ADMM cooperation for 2017-2019 while building on the previous work programs of the ADMM particularly from 2014-2017,” Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.

PAMPANGA -- Local officials and employees of the City Government on Monday submitted themselves to random drug testing as part of the preventive drug education and advocacy orientation.

At least 715 employees, including city officials and department heads participated in the said drug testing where urine samples were taken.

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 yesterday hosted the taxpayer segmentation program forum at the Kingsborough International Convention Centre attended by dozens of stakeholders and top tax payers of the region.

The program, adapted this year, subdivides the categories of taxpayers into small, medium, and large and designates specific offices that will oversee taxpayer compliance to further expand the tax base. The medium taxpayers will be designated to regional directors and small taxpayers will be assigned to the revenue district officers.

PAMPANGA -- World famous lantern maker and designer Roland Quiambao said Monday that the government should seriously consider incorporating lantern making skills and the teaching of lantern making craft in the K-12 program in the city.

Quiambao said that while lantern-making remains a strong industry with sales at all time high this latter part of 2017, the current manpower would not sufficiently cater to the demand of the season as well as saturate many areas in the Philippines.

According to DTI-Central Luzon Information Officer Warren Serrano, the suggested retail prices (SRP) of wax candles are still stable since August up to October 23.

PAMPANGA -- The City Investment Promotions Office (CIPO) of the City Government of San Fernando in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry-Pampanga on Sunday opened the “Paskong Fernandino” trade fair at Waltermart in Barangay San Agustin here.

According to CIPO Project Development Officer Jeffrey Yutuc, the trade fair features various local products manufactured and produced by Fernandino micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) such as native delicacies, pastries and lanterns that will last until January. It aims to promote and increase the sales of the MSMEs during the holiday season.

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 has seized some 300 cases of imported liquor for lack of tax stamps.

BIR regional director Jethro Sabariaga told SunStar Pampanga that the items were found in a JAS Phil Trade Inc. warehouse in Barangay Pulong Maragul in Angeles City.

PAMPANGA -- The family of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty will receive financial assistance, an official assured.

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Mark Mendoza, assigned at Marilao Police Station in Bulacan, was hit by a van and killed while manning traffic along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) as part of the route security operations for the Associated of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Defense Ministers Meeting.

PAMPANGA -- All 73 residents of the Bahay Pagbabago ni Apung Pilar who underwent a drug rehabilitation program have tested negative for illegal drugs.

This was the result of a surprise drug test conducted by the Municipal Health Office in coordination with the local police as part of the send-off assessment program.

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 said the apprehension of nearly 500 cases of cigarettes without tax stamps is an indication of a huge illegal cigarettes trade in Central Luzon.

Revenue collectors and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents earlier jointly seized 480 cases of cigarettes without tax stamps.

CLARK FREEPORT – Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced that starting December 18, it will be operating three times a week to Virac, Catanduanes from Clark International Airport.

With the new route, the home to the “majestic waves” will be approximately an hour and a half away for leisure travelers from Central and Northern Luzon, PAL announced.

ANGELES CITY -- The City Government here has acquired a 2.18-hectare private property worth P10.925 million in Barangay Margot which is being occupied by some 120 families.

Under the contract to sell, the local government will pay an initial P4 million to the land owner Lolita McCrann and the remaining balance of P6,925,500 payable in the next two years or P3,462,500 annually.

In a six-page opinion titled “Legal Effects of the Sale of the Paskuhan,” Solicitor General Jose Calida said the sale of the property to the Premier Central Incorporated (PCI), a subsidiary of SM Prime Holdings Corporation, by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) "is void pursuant to Section 54 of Republic Act No. 9593.”
