PAMPANGA -- Hyphoxia or oxygen depletion is the cause of fish kills in the Pampanga River in Macabebe and Masantol towns.

This was based on the results of the water quality testing conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in five villages of Masantol.

ANGELES CITY -- The Angeles University Foundation (AUF), in cooperation with the Angeles City Solo Parents Alliance for Community Enhancement (Space), has selected its second student to receive a scholarship grant through the Pope Francis Scholarship Fund (PFSF).

During the agreement signing at the AUF Main Campus last September 18, the school management awarded to Angel S. Timbol, Grade 3 pupil from EPZA Resettlement Elementary School, the scholarship grant that will cover the students' needs until she completes grade 12.

Now, the century-old church, which was originally made of adobe and surpassed natural calamities like typhoons and earthquakes, is undergoing renovation. The churchgoers have noticed that some debris have been falling from the dome. Cracks are even evident at the façade of the church.

PAMPANGA -- The Apalit Municipal Government is now looking into the possible extension of the 30-day cease and desist order served to Far Eastern Alcohol Corporation (Feaco) which allegedly caused fish kill in two Pampanga towns.

In an exclusive interview with SunStar Pampanga, Apalit Mayor Peter Nucom said that a four-month suspension might be imposed on Feaco to give way for its massive maintenance activity.

PAMPANGA -- The Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) manifested its strong commitment on the campaign against illegal drugs as its personnel tested negative on the drug examination conducted recently.

PPPO Director Senior Superintendent Joel Consulta said the results of the drug examination revealed that all 250 Pampanga cops are negative on the use of illegal drugs.

24 Sep 2017 - Alcohol plant permit suspended after fish kill

PAMPANGA -- The Apalit local government has suspended the business permit of Far Eastern Alcohol Corporation (Feaco), the alcohol fermentation plant that allegedly caused the fish kill in the towns of Macabebe and Masantol.

Municipal Administrator Glenn Danting, in a text message to SunStar Pampanga, said that Mayor Peter Nucom ordered the 30-day suspension after learning that Feaco has been discharging waste water into the river.

PAMPANGA -- As part of the National Government's campaign against illegal drugs, local officials and government employees of this town underwent a surprise drug examination last Monday, September 18.

CLARK FREEPORT -- A village chief in Mabalacat City has asked Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda and officials of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to effect the resumption of quarry operations along the Sacobia River.

Barangay Calumpang chief Jimmy Jimenez said the quarry suspension order jointly issued by the provincial government and the CDC, which affected the local government units in terms of revenues, should be lifted immediately.

Police Inspector Placido was the deputy chief of police of embattled Marawi City and one of two Kapampangan officers killed during the initial clash between government troops and the Maute rebel group in the area.

PAMPANGA -- Police authorities in Central Luzon arrested seven persons suspected of being "bookies" and confiscated several illegal gambling paraphernalia including collection money in several parts of Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan over the weekend as part of the regional anti-gambling operations.

In Pampanga, Mexico police operatives conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation in Barangay Divisoria which resulted to the arrest of Jocelyn Colis, a resident of the said place who was caught in the act of collecting bets for illegal an numbers game.

PAMPANGA -- The local government here headed by Mayor Johnny Sambo turned over a new rescue vehicle to Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Sto. Tomas on Monday, September 18.

Sambo said the refurbished Mitsubishi L300 is intended for the quick response of the BFP on fire incidents as well as other accidents that transpire in town.

PAMPANGA -- The fake Facebook account under the name of Archbishop Emeritus Paciano Aniceto is at it again as two government officials were reportedly messaged by the operator of the account asking for donations for the Saint Mary's Cathedral in Marawi City.

The two government officials told SunStar Pampanga that they received a "friend invite" from the account last week which they accepted. The account operator allegedly contacted the two officials asking for donations for Marawi. It could be remembered that the Cathedral was heavily damaged in the ongoing war between government forces and Maute rebels.
