PAMPANGA -- Militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Central Luzon (Bayan-Gitnang Luzon) is set to host rallies all over the entire region in commemoration of Labor Day.

Monday marches are scheduled in Aurora, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Bulacan.

30 Apr 2017 - Police official: Mexico town villages ‘drug cleared’

PAMPANGA -- Nearly a year since the war against illegal drugs was launched, some 90 percent of the villages in this town are considered drug-cleared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a police official said.

This town’s Police Chief Superintendent Wilfredo Paulo said that some 39 of the total 43 barangays already eliminated the drug menace in their respective communities.

PAMPANGA -- At least 440 students from a public school in Apalit recently received cash grants from the local government.

The students, who were enrolled at the Apalit National High School, received P1,000 each in line with the Mayor Peter Nucom (MPCN) scholarship program.

28 Apr 2017 - CHR urges EJK victims' kin to file cases

PAMPANGA -- The Commission on Human Rights in Central Luzon urged the kin of extra-judicial killing victims (EJK) to file proper cases against the perpetrators as part of seeking justice for the sudden death of their family member.

CHR Central Luzon Director Jasmin Regino said most of the EJK victims' families in the region refused to file or have withdrawn the cases they filed due to fear that they will be the next target.

28 Apr 2017 - Mabalacat City folks form movement against drugs

MABALACAT CITY -- Residents in this city, which was previously tagged as one of the drug-affected areas in Pampanga, has formed a movement against illegal drugs.

Some 182 Mabalaqueños vowed to support the fight against illegal drugs during the official launching of Mabalacat City Anti-Drug Abuse Movement or Macadam on Friday, at Jade Hall, Xevera Lot Only, Tabun.

28 Apr 2017 - Solon lauds DAR decision to cancel ‘shady’ Luisita deals

MABALACAT CITY -- Anakpawis Party-list Representative Ariel Casilao has lauded the decision of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to cancel all "shady deals" of the Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) seen to deny the actual and physical distribution of farmlands to the beneficiaries.

Casilao urged DAR Secretary Rafael Mariano to fast track the awarding of the remaining farm lands that remained undistributed for several years including the 500 hectares of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and others which were subjected to arriendo farm scheme.

28 Apr 2017 - Abad Santos monument to rise in Pampanga's 'Ayala Avenue'

PAMPANGA -- A life-sized monument of the late Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos is now being constructed in an island of Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa) here.

This was disclosed by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Pampanga First Engineering District chief Engr. William Bustos, who said that the monument of Abad Santos is being in front of the former Paskuhan Village along Pampanga’s “Ayala Avenue.”

28 Apr 2017 - Village exec, 2 others arrested in drug sting

PAMPANGA -- A village official and two other residents of this town were arrested recently in an anti-illegal drug operations launched by authorities at Barangay Sta. Ines, Bacolor.

The suspects were identified as Francisco Manabat, 50, Chief Bantay Bayan of Sta. Ines and a drug surrenderer, Cesar Sta. Cruz, 49, and Willie Marin, 53, all residents of the said barangay.

27 Apr 2017 - Arayat town mayor saddened over court’s decision

PAMPANGA -- Arayay Mayor Emmanuel “Bon” Alejandrino of this town said Thursday, April 27, that he was saddened by the court ruling clearing his political rival, former Mayor Luisito “Chito” Espino, on the charges filed against them by authorities.

Alejandrino said that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Pampanga, which filed cases of illegal possession of firearms, explosives and prohibited drugs against Espino and his three companions, Cacutud village chairman Rosendo Dizon, along with Romy Mallari and Rosauro Dillera, had a strong case against the suspects based on the evidence that were confiscated from their possession.

27 Apr 2017 - Lawmaker wants traffic, drivers’ education in K to 12 program

ANGELES CITY -- Pampanga First District Rep. Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II is pushing for the inclusion of traffic and drivers’ education in the K-12 curriculum in a bid to have safer roads and reduce traffic-related accidents.

In relation to this, Lazatin filed House Bills 4175 and 4406 requiring Grade 11 and 12 students in public and private secondary schools to undergo traffic and drivers’ education to provide them the basic knowledge on the use of vehicles.

26 Apr 2017 - Minor arrested for raping PWD

PAMPANGA -- A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Masantol local authorities here for allegedly raping a disabled woman recently.

According to victim’s sister Rosita Abrenzosa who witnessed the crime, the suspect identified as Rence Bulsim (not his real name) was caught in the act of raping the victim, “Lou,” 33, in their brother’s house in Bebe Anac village.

PAMPANGA -- After being in police custody for more than 60 days, former three-term Mayor Luisito Espino of this town was finally freed from jail on Monday, April 24.

This was after the Pampanga Regional Trial Court, in a resolution released Monday, cleared Espino and his three companions from the cases filed against them by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDG) in Pampanga.

PAMPANGA -- THE Social Security System (SSS) caused the arrest of a doctor and a school owner on its third “Operation Tokhang” led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police for violation of Social Security Act of 1997.

24 Apr 2017 - Capitol to employ drug surrenderers

PAMPANGA -- At least 2,350 drug surrenderers in Pampanga will be employed in short-term jobs, which is part of a rehabilitation program being implemented by the Provincial Government in support of President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign to end illegal drugs in the country.

Acting Governor Dennis Pineda said the employment of drug surrenderers is made possible through the partnership of the Provincial Employment Services Office (Peso) and Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

24 Apr 2017 - 30 Mabalacat seniors get P20,000 financial assistance

MABALACAT CITY -- Some 30 senior citizens aged 90 years old and above were given P20,000 worth of financial assistance funded by the Mabalacat City Government.

City Ordinance No. 55 Series of 2016 states that a senior citizen aged 90 years old and residing in Mabalacat City is entitled to avail of the one-time financial assistance amounting to P20,000.

A woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu," authorities here said.

Tony Mamac, chairman of Balibago village, said that a team composed of policemen and village law enforcers conducted an operation after the suspect and her common-law husband were reportedly selling illegal drugs in several village here and in nearby Mabalacat City.

PAMPANGA -- A total of 63 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" were confiscated by local authorities here in a series of anti-illegal drug operations conducted in different barangays recently.

Police Chief Superintendent Jean Fajardo said the drugs were seized from nine personalities who were simultaneously arrested during the operations.

20 Apr 2017 - Wage board approves P16 hike in Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board III has issued Wage Order RBIII-20 that provides a P16 increase in daily minimum wage for private sector workers in Central Luzon effective May 1.

“The Board deemed it best to increase the minimum wage at a reasonable and equitable level in light of the regional poverty threshold level vis-à-vis average wage, along the need to promote performance-based incentive schemes under the Two-Tiered Wage System,” the order stated.

“The news report was misleading. SSS does not receive any subsidy from national government. The P193.86 million fund cited as ‘subsidy’ for the month of January was not used for the benefit increase enjoyed by our qualified pensioners since last month. This amount is the share of national government in the Educational Loan Assistance Program (Elap) which has been ongoing since 2012,” Dooc sad.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The improvement of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) San Fernando Interchange in Pampanga is expected to be completed by July this year.

During a briefing with members of the Pampanga Press Club at Widus Hotel here on April 5, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) Senior Vice President for Communication and stakeholder management Romulo Quimbo Jr. said the target completion of the project is on July 4.

4 Apr 2017 - Pampanga achieves rice self-sufficiency

PAMPANGA -- We have achieved self-sufficiency in 2016 producing a total of 421,647 metric tons of rice enough to feed 2,198,000 Kapampangans, according to the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA).

Ed Salonga, officer-in-charge of OPA noted that Pampanga has 116,494.70 hectares of land divided for planting of rice (61,987 hectares), corn (16,987), sugar cane (6,500), lowland vegetables (3,500) and the remaining for orchards such as mango, calamansi, chico, coconut and dragon fruit.

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Government awarded on Tuesday the educational financial assistance amounting to P30,670,000 for second semester to 8,202 scholars of the Provincial Government at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda led the distribution to the deserving scholars from all over the province together with the members of the Provincial Board, Provincial Library and Provincial Treasurer’s Office.

PAMPANGA -- Spanish-era churches here are now teeming with tourists and pilgrims on weekends for the seasonal Lenten pilgrimages.

In Bacolor town, bus loads of pilgrims had been coming in even before the start of the Lenten season. The church has been buried in 20 feet of lahar and had since become a tourist attraction. The church had also been made famous by the recent show aired on ABS-CBN where the church has been a regular backdrop.

MABALACAT CITY -- The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has prepared a special motorist-assistance program to ensure a safe travel of motorists at the North Luzon Expressway, (NLEX), Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) during Holy Week.

MPTC President Rodrigo Franco said a big volume of traffic, including the non-regular motorists, are expected at the three expressways during the holidays.

PAMPANGA -- A total of 487 Aeta scholars were given P1,217,500 educational financial assistance by the Provincial Government the other day.

Held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here, the Aeta scholars received P2,500 each, one pack of hotdogs and four packs of noodles.

4 Apr 2017 - San Fernando City inaugurates new public market

PAMPANGA -- The City government here led by Mayor Edwin Santiago on Tuesday inaugurated the wet section of the newly built public market in Barangay Del Pilar.

Santiago disclosed that the City Government allotted some P57-million for the construction of the public market, and an additional P5-million for the sewage treatment plant and P2.5-million for the materials used for proper disposal of waste.

ANGELES CITY -- Former Angeles City Mayor Francis Nepomuceno is set to file a motion for reconsideration before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the decision of Sandiganbayan that sentenced him 12 to 20 years imprisonment for two counts of graft charges.

In a text message to SunStar Pampanga Saturday, April 1, Nepomuceno said his lawyer will file the motion for reconsideration before the Sandiganbayan at the soonest possible time.

PAMPANGA -- The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability is set to resume after its Lenten Season break in May its probe on the sale of the Philippine Christmas Village (Paskuhan) by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) to Premier Central Incorporated.

The same committee had earlier requested the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Registry of Deeds not to proceed with the processing of the transfer while the committee hearing is ongoing.

PAMPANGA -- At least 63 employees of the provincial government and attached offices voluntarily donated their blood in a regular bloodletting activity the other day at the Provincial Health Office (PHO) here.

The bloodletting is a pet project of Governor Lilia Pineda, Vice- Governor Dennis Pineda and the provincial employees for the benefit of pregnant women needing bags of blood during the time of delivery and operation or in case of emergency.

Strong demand for the three-year security set the coupon at 4.25 percent with total tenders reaching P86.2 billion for a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.87.

1 Apr 2017 - OTOP 'next gen' sessions open in Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- Some 63 local Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the region were part of the pilot run of the One Town One Product Next Generation (OTOP Next Gen) project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The sessions included product cliniquing, packaging and labeling advice, and product evaluation. The pilot session was held at the DTI Regional Office III Conference Room from March 22 to 23, 2017.
