30 Jul 2016 - Widening of JASA bridge starts

PAMPANGA -- The widening of the Balimbing Bridge along Jose Abad Santos Avenue in San Fernando has started and is seen to be completed by February 27, 2017, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

The P40.2-million two-lane bridge expansion is a result of a series of meetings initiated by the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., then Third District Representative Oscar Rodriguez, the City Government of San Fernando, the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) and the DPWH in a bid to solve the traffic gridlocks along Pampanga's premier gateway and pave the way for the eventual decongestion of Metro Manila.

30 Jul 2016 - 1,158 illegal drug users surrender in Angeles City

ANGELES CITY - More than 1,000 users of illegal drugs and substances have surrendered to the Angeles City Police Office, signaling the start of an intensive drive of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and the city government against illegal drugs and criminality.

"In compliance with the directives of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, we have intensified our offensive against the sale and use of illegal drugs. So far, 1,158 users have surrendered and all are properly documented," Pamintuan said.

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda reiterated yesterday her call to local government units and to national government agencies to prioritize the provision of funds for the rehabilitation, reformation and reintegration of the thousands of self-confessed drug users who voluntarily surrendered under the “Dalan ning Pamagbayu” program.

In a forum held at the Kingsborough Convention Center, this city, the governor said they have initially allotted P10 million fund for the anti-illegal drug campaign.

PAMPANGA -- Police authorities apprehended a drug surrenderee after seizing in his possession nine used sachets of suspected shabu Friday at the Pampanga Provincial Jail.

Provincial Jail Warden Edwin Mangiliman identified the suspect as Renan Aquino, 38, a resident of Salapungan Street, Barangay San Nicolas, here, a self-confessed drug user who voluntarily surrendered in the height of the intensive campaign of the provincial government against drug abuse, dubbed “Dalan Ning Pamagbayu (Road to Change)”.

ANGELES CITY -- The Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) has intensified its campaign against illegal drugs and other criminalities in Angeles City.

Reports from the office of City Director PSSupt. Sydney Villaflor show that as of July 25, 2016, a total of 40 operations had been conducted by personnel of the ACPO. As a result, 64 suspected drug pushers were arrested; 180 cases were filed in courts and approximately 80 grams of illegal drugs, including shabu and marijuana were confiscated with a total street value of almost P300,000.

ANGELES CITY -- Councilor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Jr. is pushing for a measure to stop the collection of tuition fee from the students of the City College of Angeles (CCA).

Lazatin recently re-filed an ordinance amending the CCA's charter which mandates the college to cease collection of tuition fees from its students.

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda expressed alarm over the huge number of self-confessed drug users and pushers in the province where 2,918 were recorded from the second district alone.

As this developed, the governor reorganized and enjoined some 1,044 members of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC) from the second district to actively get involved in the fight against illegal drugs and monitor the activities of the surrenderees to make sure that they will not go back to their old habits.

PAMPANGA -- In support of President Rodrigo Duterte's all-out campaign against drug trafficking, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda have started on Tuesday a series of orientations for Barangay Anti-Drugs Abuse Councils (BADAC) in 505 villages to strengthen their roles in the provincial government's reformation and reintegration program.

The orientation began in the second district, gathering at least 1,044 BADAC members from the towns of Guagua, Lubao, Sasmuan, Sta. Rita, Floridablanca and Porac.

PAMPANGA -- Some 200 forest officers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Central Luzon (DENR-3) here were recently trained on forest protection using the "Lawin" forest and biodiversity protection system.

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Board (PB) has moved to suspend the issuance of gratuitous permits in the province as it moves to regulate the same and craft a provincial quarry ordinance.

The PB has approved Resolution No.4369 requesting Governor Lilia Pineda to suspend the issuance of government and private gratuitous permits for an indefinite period of time until the provincial legislative board has completed a review of Ordinance No. 586 (Environment Code of the Province of Pampanga).

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda is set to convene all government line agencies in the province and local government units from the city, municipal and barangay levels as well as the religious sector to discuss the assistance needed for the reformation and rehabilitation of the 10,237 self-confessed drug users and pushers who voluntarily surrendered recently.

The governor said the P10-million budget approved by the Provincial Peace and Order Council is not enough for the anti-illegal drug campaign and rehabilitation of the surrenderees in the province.

25 Jul 2016 - PAL keen on transferring flights to Clark airport

CLARK FREEPORT -- A Philippine Airlines (PAL) official disclosed yesterday that the national carrier is keen on transferring some of its flights to Clark International Airport.

In a statement, PAL president Jaime Bautista said the carrier was keen on moving flights to Clark to decongest Metro Manila, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which was operating beyond its intended capacity. Clark International Airport, he said, could be utilized fully especially if President Duterte approves the proposed railway system that would connect it to Manila and other destinations.

ANGELES CITY -- A suspected drug pusher was killed after he tried to fight it out with police operatives in Barangay Cutud, Angeles City, Friday.

Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor, Angeles City police director, said joint operatives of the Angeles City Police Station 3 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the buy-bust operation at Phase 5 in Barangay Cutud against Jaymor Del Rosario, 46.

22 Jul 2016 - Cops seize P3.2 million worth of illegal drugs

PAMPANGA -- The Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) here said they already seized some P3.2-million worth of illegal drugs in different operations since they implemented the Oplan Tokhang (knock and plead) on July 1.

According to PPPO Superintendent Joyce Patrick Sanggalang, the provincial police was able to confiscate some 765.6427 grams of methampethamine hydrochloride or shabu and 141.03 grams of marijuana with a total market value of P3,290,148.

PAMPANGA -- Forty-four members of the communist rebel armed group New People's Army (NPA) and the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB) on Monday laid their arms and surrendered to the provincial government of Pampanga and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The 25 NPA and 19 RHB members, who came from different barangays in this municipality, yielded themselves first to their former comrade and now Mayor Norberto Gamboa, known in the underground communist movement as Ka Ross.

PAMPANGA -- Cacutud village of this town on Tuesday marched around the municipality to inform and encourage residents to participate in the intensified anti-illegal drug campaign of the local government here headed by Mayor Emmanuel "Bon" Alejandrino.

Led by village Chief Rosendo Dizon, other officials and volunteers here gathered to show their support to Alejandrino's call to suppress the use and trade of prohibited drugs in the municipality.

PAMPANGA -- The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) has warned Masantoleños to be extra careful of possible cyclones this rainy season.

6 Jul 2016 - SSS coverage now include PAGASA, PHIVOLCS, EMB job order workers

PAMPANGA -- The Social Security System (SSS) has signed agreements with three national government agencies (NGA) for the coverage of 310 workers hired as job order (JO) or contractual workers of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

SSS Professionals Sector Department Manager Noel L. Coyupan said that the signed SSS agreements formalize the inclusion of these JO and contractual workers under the KaltaSSS-Collect Program, which ensures their active SSS membership and eligibility for SSS benefits and loan privileges.

SUBIC BAY -- A Pakistani fugitive, Malik Muhammad Sharif alias Sharif Ahma, wanted for terrorism was arrested Saturday night in a joint operation by law enforcers in Subic, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

“The 39-year old Sharif, who was born in Sialkot, Pakistan, is wanted in Islamabad, Pakistan for double murder, attempted murder, terrorism and rioting. According to the Interpol Red Notice, subject carries a sentence of death penalty in Pakistan,” Morente said.
