31 Aug 2014 - Construction of medical center stalled

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Medical City, which is located inside the Global Gateway Logistics City (GGLC) here, will not be completed by December in time for a series of meetings in January 2015 in relation to the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) Summit.

This was according to the Peregrine Development International Incorporated (Peregrine), the main contractor of the GGLC project, which is being implemented by the Global Gateway Development Corporation (GGDC).

31 Aug 2014 - Pedicab driver shot dead in Mexico

PAMPANGA -- A pedicab driver was shot dead by a still unidentified riding-in-tandem at Sitio Centro, Barangay Lagundi, police said on August 28.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Gerald Simbillo, a resident of Barangay San Jose Matulid, Mexico, Pampanga.

31 Aug 2014 - Police conducts training on barangay peacekeeping

PAMPANGA -- The Police office in Pampanga recently conducted a training for members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) in Apalit town.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Madrid, Pampanga police office head, said the training is aimed to create awareness on the role of barangay officials in maintaining peace and order and at the same time to train barangay peacekeepers.

30 Aug 2014 - San Fernando beefs up war vs drugs

PAMPANGA -- The City of San Fernando has beefed up its fight against illegal drugs after barangay captains and tanods of from 35 villages gathered on Friday at the Heroes Hall for the Anti-Drug Summit meant to increase awareness on the drug problem at the grassroots.

The summit was spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Pampanga in coordination with the City Government of San Fernando.

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda appealed to all Kapampangans especially government and non-government organizations to take an active role in helping and taking care and looking after the welfare of Aetas in the upland areas of the province.

29 Aug 2014 - Ex-cop killed by motorcycle-riding suspects

PAMPANGA -- A former policeman and current barangay council, retired SPO2 Pedro Miranda, 56, was gunned down by three unidentified armed men riding on board a motorcycle along Olongapo-Gapan road in Barangay San Mateo, Arayat, Pampanga, on Wednesday.

At about 6:40 a.m., the victim was riding his Honda XRM (UT-1832) and was traversing the said road heading towards the direction of Nueva Ecija and upon reaching the said area, was shot several times by the suspects, Madrid said.

PAMPANGA -- Police recently arrested the number 9 most wanted person, Luisito Pangilinan, Jr., 29, a resident of Barangay Abar 1st, in San Jose City, Tarlac, during a raid in Taguig City.

Senior Superintendent Alex Sintin, Officer-In-Charge of the Tarlac Police Provincial Office, said that joint intelligence and warrant personnel of San Jose City Police station and Taguig City Police swooped down on the rented apartment of Pangilinan at Palar Village, Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig City.

ANGELES CITY -- The local government here, through the City Health Office (CHO), has recently unveiled its plans to expand its surgical outreach program.

The Agyu Tamu Medikalinga Center, located at the Boy Scout Angeles City Council in Barangay Sto. Domingo, is the local government's surgical outreach program which continues to offer free minor surgeries to citizens. These surgeries include the removal of sebaceous cysts, lymphoma cysts, tendon cysts, abscesses, warts, and even small breast masses, among others.

ANGELES CITY -- City Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting started Thursday the distribution of free shoes to 1,000 public school students here under her "Lakad sa Karunungan: Taking Small Steps for a Brighter Future " program that benefits indigent students.

Vega-Cabigting said that the program, which provides shoes to underprivileged students, aims to improve the morale and quality of educational experience of indigent students. She added that poor families could barely afford shoes for their children in public schools.

CLARK FREEPORT -- Government agencies have joined hands to prevent criminal syndicates from using Clark International Airport as transitory area for human trafficking and transshipment point for illegal drugs.

The first memorandum of agreement was forged between the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) and the Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) to prevent the entry of drugs into the country.

PAMPANGA -- Police arrested on Monday three suspected Muslim drug dealers and their cohort during a buy-bust operation at Purok 6, Barangay San Pedro Cutud, City of San Fernando.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Madrid, officer-in-charge of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO), identified the arrested as Asnia Dimasar, 25, Baisaman Bongsara, 19, and Nasima Abdulrahman, 29, all temporarily residing in the said barangay.

PAMPANGA -- Ricardo Bautista alias Tisoy, 38, of Batiawan, Subic, was arrested in a PNP-checkpoint along the road of Barangay San Isidro, Guagua, Pampanga, having a 38 caliber gun with 5 bullets on him.

The suspect was riding his Honda XRM motorcycle and did not stop when RPSB3 personnel flagged him down him at the checkpoint.

PAMPANGA -- Lonell "Con" Macalino, board director of the Pampanga III Electric Cooperative (Pelco III) for Macabebe, was unopposed in the election held here over the weekend.

MABALACAT CITY -- Members of the Mabalacat Aeta Tribal Association (Mata) are requesting for a dialogue with officials of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to talk about the recent unauthorized use of their ancestral land by a Clark Freeport locator.

According to Ruvielane Margarito, a tribal chieftain of Sitio Bilad in Barangay Marcos Village, the said locator of Clark Freeport conducted fencing operations within the bounds of their ancestral domain without their permission.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Medical City Clark is on track for a grand opening in December this year, which will provide Central Luzon with a world-class healthcare facility.

Global Gateway Development Corp. 22 Aug 2014 - Bishops cancel service for Aetas

PAMPANGA -- Manila Auxiliary Bishop Roderick Pabillo and Archbishop Emeritus Paciano Aniceto were advised by the Social Action Center of Pampanga (Sacop) on Thursday to cancel regular Eucharistic services for Aeta communities in Hacienda Dolores and Sapang Uwak as "their safety is not assured."

A source said that Sacop wrote the local government of Porac headed by Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz to facilitate the entry of the bishops through the area, which is now subject of a land dispute between locals and two holding firms.

22 Aug 2014 - Pamintuan: Apec-related projects done by December

ANGELES CITY -- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan has assured that priority infrastructure projects will be completed in December this year or a month before the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) summit in 2015.

The mayor said that the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) will fund some of the projects, including the Balibago Circle and the beautification of the perimeter fence along the Don Juico Avenue.

CLARK FREEPORT -- Clark Development Corporation (CDC) president Arthur Tugade renewed his appeal to contractors of the US$40-million The Medical City to finish the hospital before the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) in January next year.

With the 2015 APEC meetings set to start five months from now here, Tugade said the Global Gateway Development Corporation and its contractor Peregrine Development International (Peregrine) should finish the project before the Apec summit.

CLARK FREEPORT -- SM City Clark hosted a gun and bomb safety seminar for its mall employees, security and tenants recently in a bid to make the mall personnel more responsive and aware of life threatening scenarios.

SM City Clark Public Relations Manager Venus Manalang said the event was meant to make mall personal more responsive to dangerous situations. She added the seminar was also aimed at equipping personnel with the needed skills in responding to bomb threats.

PAMPANGA -- The City Government of San Fernando and the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham) is urging the management of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) to find an immediate solution to the reported "system glitches", which has been causing frequent gridlocks and heavy traffic in its toll booths approaches, particularly in the northern section.

"We have been receiving a lot of complaints from motorists using the San Fernando toll booths about the system glitches. So far, the NLEx people told us that it was just maintenance operations. Nevertheless, because of the frequent failure of its systems, the city government has invited the management of NLEx to clarify through a dialogue what is really happening," Mayor Edwin Santiago said.

PAMPANGA -- The Laus Group of Companies (LGC) announced recently that it is set to participate in the crafting of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the recently passed Republic Act 10642, or the Philippine Lemon Law.

The new law provides for a "Lemon Law rights period", which it defines as "the period ending 12 months after the date of the original delivery of a brand new motor vehicle to a consumer or the first 20,000 kilometers of operation after such delivery, whichever comes first."

21 Aug 2014 - CDC to recover land from informal settlers, farmers

CLARK FREEPORT -- Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is hoping that at least 45 hectares of land will be recovered before the end of 2014 from informal settlers and farmer claimants to give way to various development projects next year.

In the highlights of the midyear accomplishment report of the Operations and Security group, the recovery of the CDC properties started with the clearing and demolition of about 90 illegal structures recently along the Clark south perimeter fence in this Freeport zone.

ANGELES CITY -- The Councilmen's League of Angeles City (CLAC) approved on Thursday a resolution supporting the lone district of Angeles City, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting said.

Vega-Cabigting, proponent of the move to separate Angeles City from the province's first district, welcomed the support of the CLAC composed of barangay councilors from the city's 33 villages. The first district is composed of Angeles City, Mabalacat City and Magalang town.

20 Aug 2014 - Santa Rita town opens parish museum on religious heritage

PAMPANGA -- The Santa Rita de Cascia Parish opened over the weekend its heritage museum showcasing religious art, antiques and historical artifacts of the parish and the town.

Santa Rita parish priest Monsignor Abel Basilio led the blessing and opening of the Museo ning Parokya nang Santa Rita de Cascia at the second floor of the old convent building attached to the old parish church. The building, which was restored in 1994 now houses the historical artifacts, contemporary and antique images, as well as old furnishings of the church and its old rectory.

20 Aug 2014 - IT-based health system launched

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda and the Department of Health (DOH) launched on Wednesday at the district hospital here an Information Technology-based system designed to streamline and improve the management and services of the 10 district hospitals and one provincial hospital in Pampanga.

Pineda and DOH regional office licensing officer Julie Reyes led the launching of the Hospital Operations and Management Information System (Homis) at the Dr. Andres Soriano District Hospital (DASDH) here.

20 Aug 2014 - Dole taskforce inks pact for industrial peace

PAMPANGA -- With the aim of upholding industrial peace and job preservation in Central Luzon, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Regional Office 3, in coordination with member-agencies of the newly forged Central Luzon-Regional Inter-Agency Coordinating and Monitoring Committee (CL-RICMC) recently signed a Memorandum of Commitment (MOC) at the Dole regional office here in the City of San Fernando.

19 Aug 2014 - DA: No chicken shortage in Pampanga

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) here denied reports of a Pampanga-based national television network that there has been a shortage of chicken supply in Pampanga for the past five years stressing that supply is adequate and enough to meet local demand.

DA regional director Andrew Villacorta said broiler production has in fact increased in the second quarter of this year. Villacorta said that this was even verified by the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) who even recorded a six percent increase in broiler production.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The cat is out of the bag. Some P1.2 billion is now in the national budget for the development of the Clark International Airport (CIA). This was announced by Rep. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao (1st District-Pampanga) during the Dangerous Drugs and Peace and Order Summit at the Oxford Hotel here over the weekend.

Guiao said the P1.2 billion is included in the national budget which is up for approval by Congress. “The construction of the (Clark airport) terminal, which will increase our passenger capacity to 10 to 15 million annually, has been included in the 2015 budget to the tune of P1.2 billion,” Guiao said.

PAMPANGA -- Rep. Oscar S. Rodriguez said his bill proposing a lone legislative district for this capital city has made it through first reading and is now in the local governments congressional committee, but would need a resolution from the provincial board for it to progress.

PAMPANGA -- Some 100 farmers from Hacienda Dolores in Porac town stormed the regional office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) here, as they protested the agency’s alleged failure to realize its commitment to turn over land reform lands already awarded to them in the hacienda, and to probe the fencing of their lands by big-time land developers.

PAMPANGA -- A powerful freak tornado swept through Sitio Mindanao in Barangay San Esteban, Macabebe, and totally destroyed at least 19 houses at about 6 p.m. last Saturday.

The local police said there were no fatalities, but that some were reported to have suffered minor injuries. The police said the tornado left about 110 folk homeless after powerful swirling winds carried off their roofs and flattened the rest of their homes, mostly made of light materials.

SUBIC BAY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is establishing a housing project in an agricultural village here for at least 600 Badjau families who migrated from Mindanao to the provinces and cities in Central Luzon.

PAMPANGA -- Two Aeta mothers now have around 30 students in a daycare school they opened five years ago in Patal Bato hills in Barangay Sta, Juliana, Tarlac.

Emily Lundang, 32, and Myra Esteban, 31, belong to the Aeta Magan-tsi Tribe from Castillejos, Zambales. The two women and their families are survivors of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991, and decided to open the school for Aeta children after their studies were interrupted by the disaster.

9 Aug 2014 - 9 CSF drug traders busted

PAMPANGA -- At least nine suspects engaged in the illegal drugs trade were arrested by combined operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Luzon (PDEA-3) and Pampanga police during a raid in Barangay San Jose, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, last Thursday.

PDEA-3 director Jeoffrey Tacio identified those arrested as Dexter Nonato, 35, alias Dexter, Roel Perez, Jennifer Perez, Edwin Sta. Maria, Mylene Macapagal, Benjamin Vivo, Elpidio Quijano, Archie Nicdao and Arsan Nicdao, all residents of the said Barangay.

The Firearms Explosives Security Agencies and Guard Supervision (FESAGS), a division of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said on Wednesday it is currently investigating the recent shooting incident, which involved a number of security guards and farmers at a 130-hectare farmland at Barangay, Maimpis in San Fernando.

Last July 28, security guards from the Great Star Security Services Inc. shot a group of farmers while conducting a meeting about the ongoing demolition operation in the disputed farmland.

PAMPANGA -- At least 130 street lights were installed along a dark portion of the MacArthur Highway or the Manila North Road (MNR) here as of August 6 to safeguard motorists traveling along the busy stretch, San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago said on Wednesday.

In a press conference shortly after his State of the City Address, Santiago said the lights were put from the area near the Greenfields Subdivision, Barangay Sindalan up to Telasbastagan, the village at the boundary of this city and Angeles City.

5 Aug 2014 - BIR nets P12.2-B in 7 months

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 has registered a P12.2 billion collection for January to July this year marking a three percent increase on their collection from the same quarter last year.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Philippines' leading carrier, Cebu Pacific flew 8 million passengers from January to June 2014, an increase of about 8.0 percent over 7.5 million passengers flown in the same period last year.

In June 2014, CEB carried 1.3 million passengers, an increase of 9.5 percent over 1.2 million passengers flown in June last year. CEB flights were about 85 percent full during this period.

1 Aug 2014 - LWUA allots P3.5B for Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) announced on Thursday that the agency has already allotted a total of P3.5 billion for improvement of water services in the region.

The LWUA is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) with a specialized lending function mandated by law to promote and oversee the development of water supply systems in provincial cities and municipalities outside of Metropolitan Manila.

1 Aug 2014 - Rotarians to host medical mission for Masantol folk

PAMPANGA -- The Rotary Club of Central Pampanga (RCCP) will be hosting a medical mission for residents of Barangay Sagrada Familia here in cooperation with the University of the Assumption Outreach, Mirai ni Kibou Foundation and Partnership of Philippine Support Service Agencies (PHILSSA).

RCCP president Lourdes David said that the event is expected to bring much needed medical services to the indigent population of the barangay. She added that the area has become a regular recipient of medical services like check-ups, medicines and dental services from the said groups.
