30 Apr 2014 - Forever 21 opens first Central Luzon store at SM City Clark

ANGELES CITY -- American brand Forever 21 opened its first ever Central Luzon branch at SM City Clark on Tuesday, its 9th store in the Philippine style market.

SM City Clark Public Relations Manager Venus Manalang told Sun.Star Pampanga that the new store occupies 1,100 square meters in the newly expanded mall area.

30 Apr 2014 - Xevera folk take Pag-Ibig to court

MABALACAT CITY -- Residents of Xevera Mabalacat filed several cases in court against the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-Ibig Fund for foreclosing several properties inside the subdivision.

The cases stemmed from Pag-Ibig's foreclosure of several properties in Xevera and the subsequent extrajudicial sale of the said properties under a public auction on March 18 and on April 8 at the main entrance of the Regional Trial Court in the City of San Fernando.

30 Apr 2014 - Firearms with expired license seized from security agency

ANGELES CITY -- Long and short firearms with expired licenses were recovered from a security agency in this city.

Policemen belonging to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) and provincial police department seized 41 guns (shotguns, 9 millimeters, and .38 caliber pistols) from the office of Aquarius Security Agency Incorporated in Barangay Santo Domingo on Tuesday.

ANGELES CITY -- This city's Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan on Wednesday assured that the City Government is working double time with other government agencies to finish all development and beautification works in this city in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2015.

Pamintuan said that the international leaders' forum set in 2015 has brought in development works here that would not just benefit the upcoming event but also the economic and tourism potentials of the city.

PAMPANGA -- Former Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo said Wednesday that he felt insulted and humiliated by the plunder stories against him published on March 8, 2014 in a nationally circulated newspaper.

As he filed libel chargers against his accusers before the Ombudsman on Tuesday, Pelayo shared that the stories were read by his family and relatives, the bride's family, relatives and friends and his associates in business and politics during the wedding day of his son - Michael Gerard Pelayo who married Karlene Tiu.

30 Apr 2014 - Displaced Smart Shirt workers get aid

PAMPANGA -- True to its commitment to intensify social protection of workers in Central Luzon, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), through its Pampanga Field Office, on Wednesday awarded livelihood assistance to displaced workers of Smart Shirts (Philippines) Worker’s Union (SSPIWU), at the Dole Pampanga Field Office here.

DOLE Regional Director Raymundo Agravante reported to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, that the Dole Pampanga Field Office, under the supervision of Arlene Tolentino, facilitated the initial release of P581,000 in livelihood assistance under the Dole Adjustment Measures Program (AMP) to the 27 displaced Smart Shirts workers' union members for their Capacity Building Program for Livelihood Formation.

PAMPANGA -- Former Candaba mayor Jerry Pelayo filed libel and damages suits against 15 people who allegedly accused him of plunder before the Office of the Ombudsman, which was published in a national newspapers.

Named respondents in the complaints filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office are Arnold Canimo, Rufino Soliman, Francisco San Pedro, Edgardo De Guzman, Dionisio Guevarra, Rodolfo Manalili, Florencio Catacutan, Jessie Laurente, Romeo Balatbat, Gaudencio Lacanilao, Danilo Bartolome, Dionisio Pelayo, Bernardo Santiago, Freddie Pelayo and Sacarias Laurente.

29 Apr 2014 - Arroyos elated over Ombudsman’s decision

PAMPANGA -- Former President and now Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her son, Camarines Sur Representative Diosdado Ignacio "Dato" Arroyo on Wednesday expressed elation over the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman dismissing the plunder complaints in connection to the anomalous P1.6-billion Libmanan-Cabusao dam and Skybridge projects in Camarines Sur in 2008.

In a statement, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, legal counsel of the Arroyos, said they were elated by the decision of the Ombudsman headed by Conchita Carpio Morales which, in a 28-page investigation report, approved the recommendation of the Field Investigation Office to close and terminate the case since the evidence gathered does not warrant the "initiation of criminal proceedings against the former president and her son."

29 Apr 2014 - 22,968 families get free PhilHealth

MABALACAT CITY -- Some 22,968 indigent families from four towns and this city received their PhilHealth's Members' Data Records (MDRs) since Monday under the agency's new program, "Alaga Ka Para Sa Maayos Na Buhay" at no cost to the family beneficiaries.

In particular, the marginalized families from the town of San Simon were given 2,648 PhilHealth's members’ data records; Minalin, 3,756; San Simon, 4,474; Magalang, 5,825 and Mabalacat city received 6,265. Also granted benefits were some 2,000 beneficiaries in Sto. Tomas town.

29 Apr 2014 - Lawmaker: Angeles lone district proposal still under study

MABALACAT CITY -- First District Board Member Crisostomo Garbo on Tuesday clarified that the Provincial Board is still studying a proposal to make Angeles City a distinct congressional district.

He also denied reports saying that leaders in the province do not favor the lone district initiative, despite the expression of support made by officials of Angeles City, Mabalacat City and Magalang town which comprises the province's first congressional district.

28 Apr 2014 - Council to seek court opinion on Balibago ordinance

ANGELES CITY -- Balibago barangay captain Rodelio "Tony" Mamac on Monday said that the local village council will seek the opinion of the court this week on the legality of its amusement fee ordinance and how the Angeles City Council handled the ordinance.

It could be recalled that the Balibago Barangay Council had enacted an amusement ordinance that levies taxes on "recreational activities" that require admission fees. The funds generated from the ordinance are expected to fund the scholarship program of the village for its college students.

28 Apr 2014 - Pampanga mall recognized for disaster resiliency

PAMPANGA -- Capitol's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by Angie Blanco on Monday recognized SM City Pampanga for helping ensure disaster resiliency.

During its seventh fire and earthquake drill, Blanco said that mall officials, volunteers and its central emergency response team led by mall manager and incident commander Junies Eusebio proved their preparedness to protect customers and tenants. SM City Pampanga has an estimated daily traffic count of 60,000.

28 Apr 2014 - PRO3 non-uniformed man shot to death

PAMPANGA -- A non-uniformed personnel (NUP) of the Police Regional Office-3 (PRO3) was gunned down inside a garage in Barangay Sto. Nino, City of San Fernando, Saturday.

In a report here, Superintendent Edilberto Petillano, chief of the City of San Fernando Police, identified the victim as Henry Simpauco, 47, a resident of 1st Street, Philippine National Railways Compound, Sitio 6 of the said barangay and a NUP assigned at the Regional Logistics and Research Development Division at the PRO3 headquarters, here.

ANGELES CITY -- Environmentalists have started building the city’s first “green home” which is made of bricks and equipped with power-saving devices.

The environment-friendly house, which will be erected at the Heritage Place Phase 2 along the Circumferential Road in Barangay Cutcut here, is the first residence in the country which bears the Philippine Green Building Initiatives (PGBI) rating, said former city councilor and the home's owner Louie Reyes.

ANGELES CITY -- The chairman of Barangay Malabanias said prostitution and human trafficking should end at least in his village which has numerous night clubs, hotels, and other entertainment establishments.

Malabanias Chairman Reynaldo Gueco said they are enforcing City Ordinance Number 43-10 Series of 1995, an ordinance prohibiting the payment of bar fine or escort fee or similar activity commonly imposed on customers or privilege to take out women employees of night clubs, cocktails lounges, bars, pub houses, beer houses, sing-along pubs, karaoke pubs and sauna baths, hotels, motels, and other entertainment recreational establishments.

ANGELES CITY -- Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting and wounding of a call center agent who was assaulted by motorcycle-riding men in Barangay San Jose, Angeles City.

Senior Superintendent Eden Ugale, Angeles City police director, said Peter Paul Estrosas, 31, a resident of San Fabian Street, Barangay San Jose was parking his motorcycle when the suspects shot him.

ANGELES CITY - Two officials of Quota International expressed their commitment in helping people in the Visayas, especially those affected by Typhoon Yolanda and by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake late last year.

ANGELES CITY -- An assistant manager of the Estates Reservation and Recovery Department of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) on Friday discovered a hand grenade inside his car in Barangay Sta. Trinidad, Angeles City.

In a report here, Marcial Caniones, 48, a resident of the said barangay, said he was about to start his car which was parked inside their carport when he noticed "something" in the flooring of his vehicle.

26 Apr 2014 - Pampanga towns tops in dynamism, efficiency

PAMPANGA -- Guagua and Mexico in Pampanga and were among the 10 towns cited for their economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC).

Out of 163 participating municipalities in the 2013 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) nationwide, Guagua placed second and Mexico seventh, the two towns additionally being noted by the NCC as "friendliest places to conduct business."

26 Apr 2014 - 2 killed in megadike mishap

PAMPANGA -- Two drivers were killed while a passenger was injured when a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle figured in a collision along the Eastern Megadike road in Barangay San Isidro, Bacolor, Pampanga on Wednesday evening.

In a report here, Senior Superintendent Marlon Madrid, officer-in-charge of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office, identified the fatalities as Adriano Roque, 42, a resident of Barangay Sto. Tomas, Lubao town and Wilson Din, 51, a resident of Sta. Teresita Village, Angeles City.

25 Apr 2014 - 2 US tourists repel MRS attack

ANGELES CITY -- Motorcycle-riding-suspects (MRS) identified as Cromwelle Cayanan, 19, of Sitio Mali, and Antonio Manarang, 31, of Maligaya Street, both of Brgy. Cutcut on a black Honda TMX (UU 2706) on Tuesday picked wrong targets when their victims, both American martial arts experts on pleasure trip here, put a good fight and arrested them eventually.

Lawmen brought the suspects and the motorcycle to Station 6 for further investigation as criminal complaints ranging from robbery with intimidation and physical injury are being readied against them.

24 Apr 2014 - Health exec: Suspected Kapampangan MERS-CoV carriers cleared

PAMPANGA -- Provincial Health Officer Dr. Mar Jaochico on Thursday said that the six Kapampangans who were part of the 400 passengers of Etihad Airlines Flight EY0424 that arrived last week from Abu Dhabi and were suspected to be afflicted with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome–Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) have been cleared by the regional health department here.

“The six Kapampangans suspected to be afflicted with MERS-CoV have been cleared by the Department of Health yesterday. The throat and nasal swab tests conducted by the DOH’s regional epidemiology unit proved negative,” he stressed.

24 Apr 2014 - Pampanga posts 91% TB treatment success rate

PAMPANGA -- Pampanga has already exceeded the 2016 national target of 85 percent cure rate as the province registered 91 percent of treatment success rate, a regional health official said Thursday.

Dr. Roda Cruz, regional coordinator of infectious disease control program of the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Luzon, said that based on the record of the DOH, Pampanga has a prevalence rate of 208 cases and mortality rate of five out of the 100,000 population.

SUBIC BAY -- Senator Allan Peter Cayetano visited this city Wednesday to personally turnover funds worth P150,000 to drivers as part of his micro financing program to help the local transport sectors here.

Cayetano met officials of the Olongapo Subic Castillejos San Marcelino Transport Service Cooperative (OSCSM) and explained that the fund could be used by the cooperative for members’ loans instead of them borrowing money from loan sharks who charge very high interest.

23 Apr 2014 - CIAC screens passengers following MERS-CoV alert

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) has coordinated with the Bureau of Quarantine and the Department of Health (DOH) to screen passengers suspected of carrying the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV).

CIAC President and CEO Victor Jose I. Luciano said it is important that all CIAC personnel and other government agencies at the Clark Airport Passenger Terminal are aware of the virus to prevent the spread of the disease in the country.

ANGELES CITY -- The local government here, through its Information Communication Technology Division (ICTD), recently announced that it will soon utilize a Geographical Information System mapping application and also enhance the city's official website.

ANGELES CITY -- A Korean national was shot death in front of his wife while inside Hansang Mini-Mart and Restaurant along Friendship Highway in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City, Sunday night.

In a text message here, Senior Superintendent Eden Ugale, Angeles City police director, identified the fatality as Sin Jae Hu, 43, a Korean national.

PAMPANGA -- Demetrio Lajom, of Barangay Tenejero in Candaba town was standing near the church in Barangay Tenejero when the gunmen arrived and shot him four times.

Luvino Velunio, 47, a resident of Barangay Bahay Pare, Candaba was walking along Barangay Pulong Palazan also in Candaba when two men on board a motorbike without plate number shot him in the body.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark Development Corporation has distributed some 16 "kabuhayan karts" worth P288,000 to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

MABALACAT CITY -- The Mt. Arayat National Park in Arayat, Pampanga has been proposed for inclusion in the list of Asean heritage parks and reserves.

This was disclosed by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional director Francisco Milla Jr. who said in a statement that Mt. Arayat National Park, with a total area of 3,715 hectares, is among the four areas in Central Luzon eyed as Asean parks.

SUBIC BAY -- The City of Virginia Beach in Virginia has turned over to Philippine embassy officials in the US its donation of four modern boats, costing about P2.5 million, for disaster response operations in its sister city Olongapo.

Philippine embassy Minister and Consul Elmer Cato said the boats consisted of a 24-foot Boston whaler with a 225 horsepower engine, two rigid-hull infl atable boats with 50 and 70 horsepower outboard motors, and an aluminum utility skiff.

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Labor and Employment Central Luzon Office (Dole) is targeting more than 18,000 students and out-of-school youth across the region for enrollment in its Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) in 2014, starting in summer this year.

Dole-3 Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said that 18,352 poor but deserving students and out-of-school youth will be immersed or exposed to the workplace with an employment period that will last from 20 to 52 working days and will receive salaries based on the prevailing minimum and applicable wage rates in the region.

SUBIC BAY -- The City of Olongapo recently received an estimated P2.5 million worth of medical equipment's from a German foundation, which would help the local government in bringing high value medical care to its residents and neighbors, especially the poor and indigents.

Twenty-six medical equipment and instruments from German foundation Lotus Hilfsprogramme e.V. headed by chairman Heinrich Treutner inspected the container van containing the donation on March 4, 2014 in the Port of Manila together with City Government representatives.

PAMPANGA -- THE anti-graft court granted Wednesday morning the request of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to allow her immediate family members to stay overnight at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City this weekend for her 67th birthday.

In the decision signed by Sandiganbayan presiding Judge Associate Justice Efren dela Cruz and Justices Rodolfo Ponferrada and Rafael Lagos, the court allowed Arroyo's close family members to stay the whole day of April 4, 5, and 6, citing humanitarian reasons.
